Here are some different products we at L.R.I. like to use:
Oakridge is Owen Cornings entry level shingle. Oakridge shingles offer a wide variety of colors and give you that architectural look while remaining cost effective. Though they have a high wind resistance (110-130 mph), Oakridge shingles probably won’t stand up to Calgary’s hail storms very well.
Tru Definition Duration is Owen Cornings mid level product and is most popular. Duration is one of the best products to install in cooler temperatures as they lay flat and rarely sustain nail “blow throughs”. This is thanks to the “Sure Nail Technology”, featuring a reinforcing fabric in the nailing area promoting easier installation. No storm nailing required with these shingles, while still receiving maximum wind warranty protection (130mph.). Although this shingle seals better than any other that I have worked with, again would likely sustain damage in a hail storm.
OC Duration Storm
The best of both worlds, featuring Sure Nail Technology and Weather guard Technology. Weather guard Technology is polymeric backing material underneath the shingle giving it class 4 impact resistance. Check out this video link for more information!
